They also placed 3rd at the highest ranked Balboa competition in 2011, the American Classic Balboa Championships.
More than competing they enjoy social dancing and sharing their passion with others.
Natasha and Olivier will be teaching Balboa.
Nejc Zupan & Jenna Applegarth
Jenna found swing dancing in 2004 in her small local scene of Wenatchee WA. Since then she has spent countless hours expanding her dancing repertoire and sharing her love and knowledge of these dances with others. Her energy and passion create the perfect environment for learning.
Jenna has attended, coordinated, and taught various workshops and exchanges all across the globe. Some of her favorite highlights are performing at Benaroya Hall in The Jump Session Show and teaching for Lincoln Center’s Midsummer Night Swing. Above all else she believes that learning to dance should be fun, and rooted in the music and history. With over 15 years of teaching/coaching/training experience, she loves finding new ways to connect with other dancers on the floor and in the classroom and to create challenging yet applicable lessons in the classroom.
Nejc started dancing swing back in 2003 as a result of his contemporary dance experience and a strong love for jazz music. Because of this he became the main culprit for the popularization of Lindy Hop and Balboa in Slovenia in the early 2000s. Since 2010, he has been teaching various swing dances — Lindy hop, Balboa, Charleston, Blues — first on its own across Slovenia and now at the Studio Dansa dance school. He travels extensively to teach at international workshops, sharing his love of swing, and also competes in many international competitions, winning quite a few (Lindy Shock, Rock That Swing, both the Solo Jazz and the Jack’n’Jill at the Ljubljana Sweet Swing festival,…). His swing dance experience is a collection of endless research into different dance forms, many international workshops, show troupes and his humble willingness to keep learning from anybody who is willing to teach him. He pays special attention to jazz body movement, control and musicality, all quintessential to any swing dancing.
Jenna and Nejc will be teaching Balboa and a St. Louis Shag taster.
Michał Oblaciński & Kasia Dybowska
Michał Oblaciński and Kasia Dybowska fell in love with swing dancing in 2005, successfully launching the Lindy Hop scene in Warsaw in 2009.
From the very beginning they spent most of their spare time travelling around the world first learning and later also teaching the happiest of all dances both locally and internationally.
Since they came across Collegiate Shag in 2014 they are spreading their love for it all around Poland and Europe supporting its global revival everywhere they go. Alongside their students and with great support of Arnas and Egle from Vilnius - they started the Collegiate Shag fever in Poland.
On a day-to-day basis Michał and Kasia teach weekly Lindy Hop and Collegiate Shag classes and run the Warsaw Shag Team dance troupe in their SWINGOUT.PL Swing Dance Studio.
In swing dancing they are looking for a perfect balance of a general dance technique, natural and functional movement, leading and following skills but also some childish craziness, musicality, fun and raw energy.
Michał and Kasia will be teaching Collegiate Shag.
Bands & DJ
The Sheiks
We are 6 passionate musicians, who play swing and own originals just like back in the wild 20s: fresh, loud and with humour.
During the band's first 4 years we have already played over 100 concerts (a.o. Stir It Zurich, Lindy Cake Freiburg, Rocky Balberna Bern). We have already made a name for ourselves in the Swiss Lindy Hop and Traditional Jazz scene.
The Sheiks will play on Friday.
The Big Five
Inspired by the wild hot sounds of 1930s/40s Harlem and Chicago, The Big Five have quickly established themselves as Berlin’s most authentic swing-era jazz combo. Combining a driving rhythm section, a fiery horn-led frontline and dynamic song-arrangements, this international band makes a deep-dive into the lesser-known repertoire of the Swing Golden Age, as well as a strong emphasis on original compositions.
Ranging in size from the core quintet to the full septet lineup, The Big Five are veterans of Berlin’s famed Lindy-hop and Balboa dance-halls and know how to turn a mild-mannered dance party into a raging frenzy of swing-outs. With their sharp attire and an intense passion for authentic swing era jazz, these cats will certainly make you Jump for Joy!
The Big Five will play as a full septet lineup on Saturday.
DJ Alright
Dj Alright plays everything that makes you wanna dance. Listening to all kinds of jazz music since childhood (thx dad!), Dj Alright is always on the mission to provide you with the hottest, rompin’ and stompin’ tunes in town.
